So Many Projects to Choose From!

The calendar year of 2008 is still weeks away although I find myself already distracted with what projects await us for the next 12 months.  The high level goals of the business transformation will certainly still drive what we do for 2008 and many more years to come, but there is so much to do!

There are so many huge projects in the wings I know we will be busier than ever once January hits.  Not only will it be exciting to finally get working on them, but it will be exciting to start sharing some information on the blogs while we are working on them!  No doubt we will be able to get some great ideas and feedback during the project.  No doubt some blog comments could even get in the project(s) before they launch.  There has been a lot of communication in CodeReview and hopefully the reads and comments will only grow!

OK...I would suspect that most of the possible major projects we could work on for 2008 have already been outlined and proposed.  Although there is always room for a couple ad-hoc projects across the year.  Right now I am sitting in the Grand Rapids airport on my way to Session 4 of Achievers.  I am planning to have as many conversations as possible with IBOs and see what web initiatives they think would bring the biggest benefit to their efforts!  Since most IBOs will not be at this years Achiever's event, I would like to know from all our readers what you think our focus on the web should be for 2008?  As the new year starts we can look back at this blog post and see how on target the projects turn out to be with IBOs feelings in the last month of 2007.

Well, the plane has started boarding, so I should wrap up.  I hope to see some IBOs at Achiever's who read CodeReview!

Steve,

In attempting to read your blog, when I get to the point of clicking on the link Read More, the next screen that comes up is a blank screen.

(I don't know if my computer is too old, or the Windows 98 Operating System might be the cause.)

Please advise.

Thanks, and have a great day!!

Speaking of upcoming projects, Steve, what are the ideas/plans to put open social apps. to work for us?  It seems like applications are fairly quick to produce and implement (if you've watched the video "Campfire One" on YouTube).

Steve,

Thanks for opening the forum for feedback. My top list, not necessarily by order of importance would be:

(1) WEB SECURITY: In wake of the alarming security & Privacy landscape a exploration into Quixtar.com IBO/customer "Identity & Access Management" policies will be beneficial, including possibility of multi-factor/2-factor authentication and stronger password requirements. In addition a "Web security/Vulnerability Management" program to test B2B/B2C security of the Quixtar.com & affiliated sites may be beneficial too.

(2) LOOK & FEEL OF quixtar.com site obviously is a moving target requiring constant adjustments. The iseal goal may be to make it one of the best user friendly and easy shopping site.

I will share more as the ideas come across..Thank You

Steve,

Since you are asking for ideas from the field, here you go.  I mentioned on a reply to an entry earlier about the new LOS display that having a RSS feed that would reflect new IBOs, updates, and deletion that relate to my business would be nice.  This way when a new person joins no matter where in my business I would know and be able to welcome them in.  Plus, be aware when someone updates their contact info or any other information.

Your Thoughts?

Thanks again for the great work.

Steve,

on the topic of user friendliness, I have noticed on my computer and on a potential customers computer that the personalized ordermygift.com malfunctions- you can pick an album, then it shows the items within, and you can click on an item to get a larger view as well as description, however, at that point it freezes, and you cannot go back or foreward using the buttons on the screen, scroll up or down, and have to completely close the window and click on the album again to view another item.

HELP!  is it some issue with my and my customers computer, programs, settings, or is the site having an issue???

thanks for ANY help!

Gene

Steve, when i go to Q>Shop Brands>Ribbon> and I pick on an album, I am not able to order an individual item from that album.

I have to go through shop categories>gift collections>then click on the individual album on the left hand side. Is there a way to streamline this and have us able to pick individual items whichever way we enter in the Ribbon area?

# Gene said on December 14, 2007 at 6:07 PM:

well, since my comment posted,  and there has not been any discussion here, am I to assume the code blog got unplugged?

trying to get on to the personal web site for the Ribbon collections  still produces the same problems, and now, when you click the  "start shopping now" link, all you get is an error message.

kind a of a bad time of year, dont you think, for the GIFT website to be dead?

Hi guys, just for your "to do" list, the english items in the RSS "what's new" feed are screwed up. Lot's of RSS validation errors you might want to fix!

# ibofightback said on December 19, 2007 at 9:19 AM:

Hi Steve,

I'm using both a joomla component to import the feeds to my own website and also FeedDemon 2.5 on my PC. FeedDemon is one of the most popular RSS readers. The english language items are failing on both, which is what led me to run the validation. Other users of my site have also mentioned to me the Quixtar RSS feed seemed to be only delivering spanish news.

Steve,

sorry so long to post, It seems time never permits me to get on here as much as I would like!

anyway, in regards to my above post, Yes, the ordermygift opens, then when you select the product it opens in a new window, with lots of thumbnails of the items in that collection.  when you select an item, there are navigation tools to zoom back out, go foreward, or go backward, none of which work.  if you close the window, then you can re open the window and select a new item, but that makes it cumbersome, and it appears, by having navigation tools on that page, that the intent was somewhat different.

an additional item or rather, items, that have come to my attention from potential customers I have had go to my gift website, is that one- it seems confusing to a new person going on the site.  there is a link that says start shopping now, which takes you to 3 collections.  perhaps on that page you could add two links that take you to the variety or specialty collections in full, rather than the two links at the top left?  either that, or get rid of the "start shopping now" link from the center of the page, and add it at the top left, pointing to the two links for variety collections and specialty collections, and change the color of those two links so they stand out on the page.....

and is there any way to give us a pic of someone other than scary grinning chick?  or add a text bubble above her head reading " perfect, they will never know what hit them"?

I think she gives small children nightmares

:)

Steve,

Here is a project for you or someone that works directly on the Quixtar site. Under "Start a Business" nearly every time on every page, the term "Independent Business Owner" is mentioned, "Independent" is misspelled "Independant." I just thought you'd like to know that so it can be fixed.

Hi Steve,

I thought I would report an interesting, but slightly annoying issue. I was on the Quixtar site and noticed that if I go to the simplynutrilte or teamnutriliteusa sites in FF I get logged out of my quixtar session. Is there a reason for this or can we look into modifying this behavior?

Thanks!

BTW, love the new site, looking forward to seeing where the personal sites go!

Oh, and I hope you and the rest of IT had a great relaxing Christmas Holiday!
